I’ve had it with our Park & Rec department. Last year you would have heard me singing their praises, especially for their Tball/Baseball programs. It was a breath of fresh air after a bad experience we had with a private club team.
This year I have become disenchanted with them.
A kids signs up to play 3rd grade baseball. A Park & Rec employee decides AFTER the signup deadline that she wants her kid to play, so she signs him up, bumping the first kids onto the waiting list. The waiting list is now 15 kids, and he has no chance of being on a team. You think the department would make a team out of all these kids? Nope, too complicated for them since it would mean an odd number of teams and it would be too hard for them to figure out how to schedule in a bye week. Meanwhile, the kids who gets bumped is denied playing on a team with his schoolmates, a team he was on last year. He his understandably upset, and is unable to get on any team or in any program in the area because it is so late in the year.
So happens the Director of the Park and Rec Department’s daughter was on the soccer team I coached. I placed a call to him, figuring I had an “in”. Nope. I never even received a courtesy call back from him. Nice.
Too bad I will now be looking at private leagues again next season, along with probably half the kids we know.
Hey Waukesha Blazers, you have room for us next year?
That kind of sucks!
Are you going to move away from PnR Soccer also?
It’s not really the individual sport that matters. It’s the personnel and management at the city that run them. Is this Chicago?
