Not sure how much of a review this is, since I’ve never done one before. Let’s just call it my observations.
- The drinks were delicious and moderately priced.
- The 5 Lilly soup was the best thing we had there. A creamy mix of red onion, white onions, garlic, and two other things (which adds up to 5) which I can’t remember.
- My wife’s lobster dish was also good, although it came covered with mushrooms which she didn’t remember seeing in the dishe’s description.
- I had the Ribeye, ordered medium. It was medium around the exterior, but once I got to the inside half of the steak, it was rare. This ruined the entire meal for me.
- The manager did bring us a dessert wine to compensate.
- The desserts were disappointing, we didn’t even order one. The creme brule flavor was some weird thing, ginger or something.
- The entire bill was $125, not bad when you consider we had 3 drinks each.
- We were the only table seated until about 6 pm. There were probably 4-5 tables seated when we left at 7.
- My overal rating would be a 2.5 out of 5. I just wasn’t impressed, wasn’t dazzled. Plus, my raw steak. I probably won’t return, and couldn’t recommend to my friends when I know there are other high scale restaurants out there where I know they could get a great meal guaranteed.
I was excited when this project was announced, I thought it could help turn downtown Waukesha around. I was always skeptical about the hotel’s success, thinking the rates were just too much with Milwaukee so close. But I always thought the restaurant had a real shot, now I’m not so sure. However, I would probably return to the bar, which was quite crowded when we left, and were even showing the Brewers game.
Good to know. When I’m going to drop that kind of cash on a meal (once or twice a year), I want to know that I’m getting something that’s going to make me really, really happy.
For less formal dining, try Generations at 5 Points. Excellent food and a good bar.
That’s next on our list, wish I had gone there instead, but we had a gift certificate.
They change up their menu a lot, but we’ve tried almost everything they offered at one point. Everything from the sliders to the fancier dishes are excellent. Beware though: if you come hungry be prepared to order more than one item in this tapas-style eatery. My wife and I usually order 3-4 things and share them.
I’ll keep that in mind. I’ve heard it’s a great place to go with a group?
They do have a couple of larger tables in the back to accommodate a group. I think small plate eating and the sharing that ensues could make for a fun group experience, sure. I usually go there with my wife, though. We have a martini, order a couple plates of whatever, share it, and leave very happy.
Reminds me. Here’s three examples of the kind of entrees they’ve served us in the past:
